I don’t know about you, but naptime sure is hectic around my home. It can last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 ½ hours. While everything is super peaceful in my daughter’s room, the rest of the house is anything but.

Naptime is my time to get things done that requires my full attention. Mostly I use this time to work. It is also the perfect time to get some housework done. And occasionally it is “me” time as well.

Let’s take today for instance. My daughter went down for a nap after playgroup and the countdown is on. First I loaded my dishwasher and started it. We have a pretty quiet one so it doesn’t disturb her sleeping. Counters wiped down and the kitchen looks good. I start thinking about what to make for dinner and start some rice in my rice cooker. Fifteen minutes have gone by.

Then I sit down and check my voicemail and email. I return a phone call and get their voicemail. They only had a quick question and I was able to answer that in my return message. That takes three minutes. Next is my email. I got 10 new ones from when I last checked this morning. Five are spam, 2 are joke emails, 1 is suitable for snopes.com and one is business related. I spend the next five minutes answering that email.

I have an article that is due and with brainstorming, researching, and fact checking I spend around thirty minutes on it. Once I am happy with it I send it off. Fifty-three minutes have elapsed since I laid my daughter down for her nap. The clock is starting to run out on naptime.

It is time for a little bit of me time. Check my cupboard in the kitchen and perfect! Some of my favorite chocolate left over from Easter is calling my name. I sit down with a cup of chai, my chocolate, and the book that is taking me forever to read. Today I get in nine minutes of reading before I hear “Momma” coming from down the hall. Naptime is over.

What goes on during naptime in your home? Do your children still nap? I would love to hear any naptime tips that you would like to share.

Warmly,
Mia
