WAHM Dress Code

When I used to work at an office, we had a pretty specific dress code of what was and was not acceptable. It started out as a business professional environment where three piece suits on men were not uncommon. Over time it relaxed into business casual environment but certain things were still verboten. Tank tops, flip flops, and blue jeans were all on the no list.
Now that I work from home I find it a major accomplishment if my daughter and I make it out of our pajamas before noon. This has been a complete culture shock in some ways. While I am all for being comfortable, I have found that being too relaxed is not conducive to getting work done. Plus it is always embarrassing when a friend or neighbor pops over and I am still in my bathrobe.
I have found that having a WAHM dress code has helped me immensely. Here are some of the “rules” in the code:
1)Everyone should be dressed one half hour after waking up in the morning.
2)Pajamas are acceptable on weekends until noon and all day on sick days.
3)Coordinating pieces are favorable. All blues match, right?
4)Outfits should contain no more than two spots of spit up or leaked breast milk.
5)If you wouldn’t leave the house wearing it, it probably isn’t appropriate for working at home.
Some of the rules are serious and others are tongue-in-cheek of course. I have found that making the effort to get dressed in the morning and getting my hair and makeup done makes me feel so much more put together though. Days that are spent in pajamas leave me feeling like I can lounge around and not much gets done.
Of course if you meet with clients at all, then you should probably follow a bit stricter of a dress code on those days. You can never go wrong with a business casual approach.
Do you follow a WAHM dress code? What are your rules? I’d love to hear from you.
Warmly,
Mia
