Multi-tasking WAHMs

It is not known how many mothers work from home but the number of women that own small businesses is around 10 million and growing. It is easy to see the attraction. You get to stay home with your children, there is no commute, and you may even be able to work in your jammies.
Moms are well suited for the task of working from home. We have been equipped with this innate ability to multi-task. I can make dinner, keep an eye on my daughter, talk on the phone with a client, and fold laundry all at the same time. If my husband is home alone with my daughter, well let’s just say they are both in one piece when I get home.
And multi-task you must. Keeping a calendar or extensive to do list is an absolute must in making sure everything gets done. This includes both business related items and personal ones. I have found the key to being productive is sitting down with a spreadsheet at the beginning of the week and mapping out everything that must be done.
I joined the work from home force 4 years ago, and while it has its ups and downs, I wouldn’t change anything. I am home with my daughter which has been wonderful for both of us. There is time for play dates, baby gym classes, and spur of the moment trips to the zoo.
Naptime and the time after my daughter is in bed for the night is when I get most of my work done. This can make it feel like I am always working and I get very little down time. I have to make sure to schedule fun time for myself.
Working from home also has its downside. Sometimes my daughter won’t nap, people in the house get sick, and life sometimes gets in the way. I have found though that overall the pluses outweigh the minuses.
Tell me about your experience. Do you find it easy to multi-task as a work at home mom? Has it been a good experience for your family? I look forward to discussing this topic more.
Warmly,
Mia
