Fun in the Kitchen: No Bake Cookies
It is definitely July. We have had days and days of hot weather, with no end in sight. Carry out has replaced cooking as I cannot bear the thought of turning on our oven to make dinner.

Today’s high is forecast to be 87 in my area today. It is way too hot and humid to turn on the oven. I think this is a great chance to make something with your kids in the kitchen that is cool and that they will love to dig into.
Continuing on with our summer fun in the kitchen ideas, today’s recipe is for make your own bubbles. My daughter has loved bubbles since a very early age and I know they are popular with many children.
Long summer days mean trying to come up with fun activities for outside. The weather has us outside most days enjoying the sun. Sometimes kids want something to do that doesn’t involve the pool or swing set though.
The strawberry season has arrived here. Local farms have their fields open for the “you pick” crowds and their tables are loaded at the farmer’s market. They are absolutely one of my favorite fruits, even more so when I know they have just been picked.
On Sunday mornings, my dear husband and daughter have started a bit of a tradition. While I get to sleep in or enjoy a long and uninterrupted shower, they are busy making pancakes from scratch.
Children of all ages love to paint with their fingers. Who needs a paint brush when your body comes equipped with useful digits and palms? This can be a pretty messy endeavor but now that summer is here it is also a great outdoor activity.
Today’s recipe is a super kid friendly one. Pizza is one of the most popular foods in this country and it is enjoyed by people of all ages. I know that the local carry out pizza restaurant by me is always busy.
In order to save time with grocery shopping, we get a weekly delivery of fresh organic produce. It comes directly to our door and is a mix of local and not so local produce. It has cut down on the amount of grocery shopping trips I need to make. Which is a must these days with gas prices being so high and my time as a work at home mom at a premium.
One of my favorite treats is a warm chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven. The chocolate chips are all melted and gooey. Pair that with a tall glass of milk and you have a fabulous treat.
My good friend has two girls, a four-year-old and two-year-old. They have a membership to a hand’s on museum in their area and visit at least once a month. They have a large water table for the kids to play with and there is always science demonstrations going on.
As part of our Tuesday recipe series, I thought pretzels would be a fun topic today. I love pretzels. Most of the people that I know love pretzels. Strangely my dog won’t eat them, but I still love her. There is nothing quite like a homemade pretzel though. Getting to twist them into shapes, bake them and then eat them is so much fun.
Now that my daughter is getting to the point that she doesn’t put everything into her mouth, I have introduced her to the fun world of play dough. She loves to roll it with a rolling pin and cut it up with cookie cutters. She pokes it and pinches it and smooshes it with her little fingers. It can keep her entertained for a good twenty minutes or so.
