One of the most common ways for someone to work from home is to join a direct marketing, or multi-level marketing company. These are companies that recruit people to become sales consultants and sell their products directly to consumers. Everyone has heard of the mainstays in the business or knows someone with them: Tupperware, Avon, and Mary Kay. There are companies out there that sell everything from knives to vitamin supplements.
If you are thinking of joining a direct marketing company, how do you know what company is right for you?
Your first step should be writing down a list of your favorite things. Do you love jewelry, cooking accessories, or computers? Is there anything that you are very knowledgeable or have special training in? You want to sell products that you love and can get very excited about. Trust me, if you do not like red wine then you probably won’t be able to sell it.
Look for companies that sell the items that made the top of your list. Do a search on Google and ask family and friends for recommendations. Contact the company directly or search for a consultant. Research the products that they sell. Ask for a catalog and product samples. Ask everyone you know to take a look at the catalog and tell you what they think. Do they like the products and most importantly, would they buy them? These will probably be your first customers when you sign up, so you want to make sure it is an appealing product.
Once you have decided on a company, your next step is to find a consultant to sign up with. Most of these companies have multiple levels, meaning the person you sign up under will earn a commission on your sales. In return for this, they should help guide you within the company in order to become successful at building your business. You want to make sure this is someone that you have a good fit with, as you will probably spend much time working together. As a perk, you will also be able to sign consultants up under you and earn a commission on their sales with most companies.
Tomorrow we will discuss more points on finding the perfect direct sales companies. Do you have any tips to share on how you found the perfect company? What else should you be looking for when deciding? This can be a huge decision and it is always best to take your time.
Warmly,
Mia
