Happy Memorial Day

Today was a day of great remembrance in the United States. It is Memorial Day and it has been celebrated in some form since just after the Civil War. It was formerly known as Decoration Day, because it was a day to decorate the graves of soldiers. Now it is known as a three day weekend and is usually centered around a barbecue grill.

Today was special to me because my husband had the day off from work and we got to spend the day together as a family. We went to the local parade with our daughter and my parents. It was a beautiful day.

We stood up and applauded as the veterans walked by, so proud in their uniforms. Every year I love the accolades the crowd gives these men and women that served our country. They are one of the reasons we are able to stand there free today. My daughter was a big fan of the clapping. She also loved the marching bands, bopping her little head in time to the drums.

Then we enjoyed a day around the barbecue, with my husband grilling up his specialties over a charcoal fire. My daughter got to splash in the kiddie pool and I got to spend time just focusing on her laughter and joy of discovering new things.

Other than posting here today, no real work was done. It was just a day to focus on family, honor our soldiers, and to remember loved ones. I hope that you too got to slow down and just enjoy this time.

Thank you to the veterans who served our country. Thank you to the soldiers that continue to protect us and endure great sacrifices. Thank you to their families that give up time with their loved ones so that we can remain free. Happy Memorial Day!

Warmly,
Mia
