Case of the Mondays

I was talking to a stay at home mom friend recently and we both agreed that Mondays are a very difficult day. Fresh from having your spouse or partner home for the weekend and suddenly you are home alone with your children. It can be quite difficult to get anything done. It reminds me a bit of one of my favorite movies, Office Space. One of the characters is teased that he has a case of the Mondays. I would love to talk about some ways to combat this today.
Keep to a schedule. One of the best ways to keep everyone in your family on track is to have a schedule and keep to it. When you do not have anywhere that you need to be by a certain time is a great recipe for staying in your pajamas all day and accomplishing nothing. Stick to a set wake up time, breakfast time, activity time, etc and everyone in your family will be much happier for it.
Make Monday a Fun Day. Don’t plan on getting any work done on Monday. Let Monday be the day to have fun with your children. Schedule a fun activity, go to the zoo, or take your children out to lunch. Focus on your family and not on a deadline. This can be a great way to reconnect or slow down after a hectic weekend.
Hire a mother’s helper. If you know that you will not accomplish anything productive on Monday, bring in some help. A mother’s helper can play with and take care of your children while you are working. You are there if your children need you but you are freed up to work as well. This can help you from feeling that Monday is a wasted day.
What is the day of the week that you dread the most? How come? For me it is definitely Monday, as you can tell by this late night post. I look forward to tomorrow.
Warmly,
Mia
