Are Weekends Family Time?
Working from home is generally not a Monday through Friday 8-5 job. For me it is normally a get things done while my daughter is sleeping type schedule. It is also very tempting to get some work done on the weekends when my husband is home. I really try to keep work on the weekends to a minimum though.
I have found that for myself there are several reasons why I like to make the weekends about family time. For one I think everyone deserves a break from working. It is good to take some time to recharge and not have to focus on deadlines and plugging away. I find that I am much more refreshed on Monday and ready to get back to it when I have spent a few days away.
The amount of time that I get to spend with my spouse is very little. He works very long hours and I sometimes think his coworkers know more about him than I do. We even joke that he has a work husband. Weekends are our time to reconnect and spend time talking face to face and not just over instant messenger.
My daughter delights in the undivided attention that she gets from me. There is no phone or computer vying for my attention. We can spend the day as a family going to the park or zoo or just staying in coloring or playing with play dough.
We can get together with our extended family. Often times our weekend will end with a family barbecue at my house or at my sister’s. My parents will get to spend time with both of their grandchildren, the men tend the barbecue and my sister and I can catch up on things. My daughter loves her cousin and they will often spend the time just laughing and giggling with each other.
Do you work on the weekends? Or is it family time? I admit I will sometimes work after my daughter goes to sleep, but Saturday night is always movie night for my husband and me. We rent a movie, cuddle on the couch, and eat some popcorn. Have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Mia
